CANNONS PUT OUT THE FLAMES 117-107

November 12, 2019

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-November 9, 2019-The Philly Cannons improved to 2-0 on the season after holding off the Pottstown Flames 117-107 in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest. After opening their season on the road last week against Norristown, the Cannons returned home to host Pottstown at the Lucien E. Blackwell Community Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“We had a lot of miscues and bad possessions but ultimately we played hard [and] tried to finish the game strong,” said first year Head Coach Andre Rivers. Already without the services of several players due to injuries (Ramair “Juice” Garner, Shawn Green, Isiah Gans), the Cannons had a horrible set back when 2nd year guard, Will Brown, landed on an opponent’s foot after shooting a corner three pointer and went down with what appeared to be a ruptured Achilles. “One of our best players went down,” said a dejected Rivers.

The Cannons placed four players in double figures led by guard Khayyir Laws with 29, and Deione “Dex” Lathem with 22.  Akil Anderson chipped in with 15, and the injured Brown put up 12 before going down midway thru the 3rd quarter. Newcomer Thomas Farrior added 10 points. “We had a lot of people picking up different roles throughout the game they weren’t used to [and] ultimately it made us better but we have a lot of work to do going forward the remainder of the season, “assessed Coach Rivers. The Cannons will return to the road next Saturday, November 16, 2019 for a 6:45 PM tip-off with the Baltimore Hawks. The matchup will take place at Saint Frances Academy, located at 501 E. Chase Street, Baltimore, MD 21202.

The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Mid Atlantic Division with the Baltimore Hawks, DC Soul, Hub City Hogs, Pottstown Flames, Virginia Veterans, West Chester Wildcats, York Buccaneers, Richmond Elite, PG Valor, the Fredericksburg Grizzlies, Roanoke Rising Stars, Virginia Vets and the West Virginia Warlocks.
