CANNONS DEBUT IN ABA PLAYOFFS

March 13, 2019

The Philly Cannons are set to host their first playoff game in the American Basketball Association (ABA) when the NEPA Stars and Stripes come to town this Saturday, March 16, 2019 for a 5 PM tip-off at the Christy Recreation Center 728 S. 55th Street. Admission is $5. The winner of the contest will face the Roanoke Rising Stars or the West Chester Wildcats, who will play on Saturday as well in Roanoke, Virginia. West Chester defeated the Pottstown Flames 140-113 this past Sunday in the play in game to advance to the next round.

“The Stars and Stripes are a very solid organization, and I am certain that they have improved since our early October meeting,” said 3rdyear Head Coach, Roger Beckwith. The Cannons, who finished the season ranked 20th in the country out of 143 ABA teams with a record of 10 wins and 5 losses, defeated the Stars and Stripes in Wilkes-Barre 155-111 October 28, 2018 for their second victory of the season. “The Stars and Stripes have an All ABA performer (Isiah Walker), and have a lot of pride… I’m sure they will be prepared on Saturday,” concluded Coach Beckwith.

If Philly wins and West Chester wins on Saturday, they will play in the Philadelphia area on Sunday, March 17th, however if Roanoke defeats West Chester, the winner between the Cannons and Stars and Stripes will have to travel to Roanoke, Virginia on Sunday to face the Rising Stars. “I’m not even thinking about Sunday… it would be completely foolish to overlook the Stars and Stripes so we will cross that bridge if and when we get there,” said Beckwith.
