CANNONS COMPLETE COMEBACK WIN OVER WILDCATS 153-151

March 3, 2019

The Philly Cannons found themselves down 14 points with less than 3 minutes to go in the game but were able to escape with a 153-151 victory over the hosting West Chester Wildcats at West Catholic Preparatory School in West Philadelphia. Philly received a huge performance from Deione “Dex” Lathem, who paced the Cannons with 35 points. Marcus Thomas and Ramair “Juice” Garner added 20 points each respectively. Will Brown hit three three-pointers off the bench as part of his 15 points, while Shawn Green (13), Akil Anderson (12) and Rell Harrington (11) each scored in double figures for the nationally ranked, playoff bound Cannons.

“I don’t know if we deserve to win that game or not but I’ll take it,” said an exasperated Coach Roger Beckwith, who has led to the Cannons to a 10-5 record in the franchises’ third season in the American Basketball Association (ABA). “Hats off to West Chester; we clearly have a rivalry brewing and it will be even more fun playing them in the future but for now I’ll take this victory as a tune-up for the ABA playoffs,” said Beckwith.

The Cannons await their opponent in the ABA play-in rounds set to be begin next weekend, and expect to face a Mid Atlantic Division team after playing in the Northeast Region all season. “The league has assigned us to the Mid-Atlantic Region for the playoffs and we are very excited to see what March Madness has in store for us,” offered Beckwith.  The Cannons will receive their playoff assignment tomorrow, Monday, March 4, 2019.
