The Philly Cannons’ Rell Harrington has been named an alternate for the 2019 American Basketball Association (ABA) All Star Game in Pittsburgh April 20, 2019. Harrington, averaging 27 ppg on the season, was listed as an Honorable Mention All Star after leading the Cannons to a 9-5 record, a top 25 ranking all season long, and a playoff berth in the Cannons third year in existence.
“Rell has been very consistent for us this year and we have needed his stable production on both ends of the floor…no matter the situation during games, I feel confident that we are never out of it completely because of his ability to impose his will defensively,” said Head Coach and Team President, Roger Beckwith. Known for his deadly outside shooting, Harrington figures to compete in the three-point contest during the ABA Skills challenge at ABA All Star Weekend. “I am honored to be a part of the 2018-19 All Star game… thank you family and friends who voted for me [and] we not finish yet,” said the 5’11” perimeter sniper who hit a Philly Cannons’ single game record nine three pointers in a December win over the Norristown Knights.
The Cannons conclude the regular season this Sunday, March 3, 2019 with a 6 PM tip off against local rival, the West Chester Wildcats. The game will take place at the Cannons former home venue, West Catholic HS, located at 4501 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, however West Chester is the hosting team. “We want to finish the season with momentum for the playoffs and know that West Chester is looking to do the same,” stated Coach Beckwith. The Cannons will receive their playoff assignment on Monday, March 4, 2019.
