The Philly Cannons improved to 2-1 with a 114-111 victory over the New York Holy Storm during their home opener Saturday night at West Catholic Preparatory High School in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest. The Cannons were paced by Marcus Thomas, who led all scorers with 38 points, and Shaquille Duncan, who contributed 29 points to the victory.
“I’m happy that we got the victory in our home opener, but we have to do a much better job of closing out games.” said Head Coach & CEO of the Philly Cannons, Roger Beckwith. The Cannons, who led by as much as 20 points, had to withstand a fierce rally from the Holy Storm and were fortunate to escape with the three point win.
The Cannons will host the Fredericksburg Grizzlies tomorrow in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania at 1 PM at their satellite home arena, Alpha Fitness Gymnasium. The south, central Pennsylvania location will also be the site of a rematch with the Reading Wizards next month.
The ABA consists of over 100 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Chesapeake Division with the Baltimore Hawks, DMV Warrior, Prince George County Valor, York Buccaneers, Atlantic City Aces, Reading Wizards, Steel City Yellow Jackets, and the Salisbury Bulldogs.
