Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-December 22, 2019-The Philly Cannons improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating the Lehigh Valley Hunters 117-105 Sunday afternoon in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest. “Great win going into the holiday break,” said Head Coach Andre Rivers. This was the first ever meeting between the two ABA franchises; however Lehigh Valley will get a chance at redemption early next year when the Hunters visit the Cannons in Philadelphia January 18, 2020. That game will take place at the Lucien E. Blackwell Community Center, located at 761 N. 47th Street. Tip off will be at 1:00 PM. The Cannons received excellent production from the backcourt tandem of Jerrell Thompson (25 points) and Khayyir Laws (28 points) and probably should have won the game by a wider margin. “We executed on both ends… could of finished stronger and created more separation but a win is a win” exclaimed Coach Rivers. In addition to Laws and Thompson, the Cannons also received a strong effort from Malik Garner with 15 points, and Ramair “Juice” Garner (no relation) also reached double figures with 10. The Cannons will break for the holidays and resume action when they visit the nationally ranked Ephrata Thunder in central Pennsylvania January 5, 2020. In the most recent poll of top 25 teams in the American Basketball Association, the first year Thunder checked in at number 22 nationally with a record of 7-3. The Cannons, now having won 2 in a row, know this will be a critical game in the Mid Atlantic Division. “Looking forward to our next opponent,” said Rivers. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Mid Atlantic Division with the Baltimore Hawks, DC Soul, Hub City Hogs, Pottstown Flames, Virginia Veterans, West Chester Wildcats, York Buccaneers, Richmond Elite, PG Valor, the Fredericksburg Grizzlies, Roanoke Rising Stars, and the West Virginia Warlocks.
