Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-December 24, 2019-The Philly Cannons of the American Basketball Association (ABA), in conjunction with Graison Taylor Custom Sewing, made a donation of several holiday meal items to Station House, a homeless shelter for men, located at 2601 N. Broad Street. “This is a continuation of what we were trying to do during the Thanksgiving season" said Philly Cannons Team President, Roger Beckwith. During the Thanksgiving holiday, the Cannons donated three (3) Thanksgiving Dinner Baskets to three (3) different families in the Mantua section of Philadelphia. "We recognize that there is significant need in our community, and although this is really just a drop in the bucket, we hope efforts like this will inspire others to give no matter the size of the donation," said Beckwith. Graison Taylor Custom Sewing continued their partnership with the Cannons in providing most of the items that were provided to the homeless shelter that receives referrals from the City of Philadelphia's Office of Homeless Services (OHS) and is a program under Self Inc. From Self's website, Station House's mission is to "serve single adult men who are experiencing homelessness and are between the ages 18 and 60 plus years." The average stay is between six months and two years. The Cannons, who go into the holiday break with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses after defeating the Lehigh Valley Hunters 117-105 Sunday in Bethlehem, PA, are off till January 5, 2020 when they visit the Ephrata Thunder. "It's important for our players and organization as a whole to take time to spend with our families and loved ones, but we still want to be prepared for the second half of the season," said Beckwith. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Mid Atlantic Division with the Baltimore Hawks, DC Soul, Hub City Hogs, Pottstown Flames, Virginia Veterans, West Chester Wildcats, York Buccaneers, Richmond Elite, PG Valor, the Fredericksburg Grizzlies, Roanoke Rising Stars, and the West Virginia Warlocks.
