New York, New York-January 19, 2020-The Philly Cannons remained winless in 2020 after dropping a decision in Manhattan to the revenge seeking Harlem/New York Underdogs Sunday, January 19, 2020 in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest. The Cannons defeated the Underdogs in New York on December 16, 2019 but this time Harlem jumped out front and Philly was never able to gain significant momentum losing 117-100 to drop to 4-7 on the season. The Cannons were down almost 30 points in the first half, and managed to cut it to ten in the third quarter. However, Harlem was able to make shots down the stretch and get the win. “We missed easy finishes… free throws,” said Head Coach Andre Rivers. “Didn’t play with enough effort to make stops and get 50/50 balls.” Rivers continued. Guard Jerrell Thompson had a different take. “Solid roster that struggles with chemistry,” suggested Thompson. The Cannons placed five (5) players in double figures led by Isiah Gans with 17 points. Newcomer Tyree Tucker added 15 in his second game with the Cannons. Although he left early in the third quarter with a minor injury, Marcus Thomas reached double figures with 13. Darius Robinson-Wallace, Kenny Walton, and Malik Garner each had 12 points apiece while the aforementioned Thompson scored 10. “We need an injection of confidence, swagger and toughness” assessed Coach Rivers. It does not get any easier for Philly as they journey to face the Wyoming Valley Clutch this Saturday, January 25th for a 7:15 PM tip-off with the nation’s number 2 ranked ABA team. The game will take place at the Clutch’s home venue located at 36 S. Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. As the playoff race continues to heat up in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the Cannons will travel to New Castle, DE to face their back yard rival, the West Chester Wildcats on Sunday, January 26, 2020 for a 3:00 PM tip-off. The game will take place at 903 Delaware Street in New Castle. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Mid Atlantic Division with the Baltimore Hawks, DC Soul, Ephrata Thunder, Hub City Hogs, Philly Raiders, Pottstown Flames, Virginia Veterans, West Chester Wildcats, York Buccaneers, Richmond Elite, PG Valor, the Fredericksburg Grizzlies, Roanoke Rising Stars, and the West Virginia Warlocks.
