The Philly Cannons will face the West Chester Wildcats this Friday, March 22, 2019 in a third round American Basketball Association (ABA) single elimination playoff contest. The game will take place at the Christy Recreation Center, located at 728 S 55th Street in West Philadelphia. Tip-off will take place at 7:30 PM. Admission is $5.
The Cannons defeated the NEPA Stars and Stripes 115-104 this past Saturday in Philadelphia, while the Wildcats went on the road to defeat the Roanoke Rising Stars 133-127, setting the stage for Friday night’s matchup. The winner of the Philadelphia-West Chester playoff game will move to the next round to face the Baltimore Hawks Saturday, March 23, 2019 in Baltimore, Maryland.
“West Chester is riding a wave of momentum now after eliminating Roanoke,” said 3rd year Coach, Roger Beckwith. “I know they feel like they gave one away to us on March 2nd and want to avenge that loss …it’s going to take a great effort from us to win for a third time this season against them.”
The Cannons (11-5) defeated the Wildcats (7-15) on November 10, 2018 by a score of 110-106 and earlier this month when they rallied from ten down in the final minutes to escape with a 153-151 victory. Philadelphia holds a 2-0 season advantage over West Chester, and will need to defeat them a third time if they intend to continue on the road to St. Louis, where the ABA Final 8 will take place this season to determine the ABA Champion. The Jacksonville Giants are the 5-time defending ABA Champion.
“West Chester is obviously playing their best ball in March, which is ideally how this is supposed to work. I saw (Marquis) Marshall had a 30-point game against Roanoke, and he didn’t play our last meeting so we have a healthy respect for them and know that they are better than their record may indicate,” assessed Coach Beckwith.
