CANNONS WIN IN WEIRTON
The Philly Cannons resumed action against the Weirton Widowmakers in Weirton, West Virginia, and departed town with a 134-114 victory over the newly formed, first year American Basketball Association (ABA) franchise. Philadelphia has now improved to 4-2 on the season and are currently ranked number 22 in the ABA national rankings.
The Cannons jumped out early on the rookie ABA team but the Widowmakers were able to make it interesting behind team wide hot 3 point shooting. “They had to shoot about 75% from three point range… I don’t remember them missing at all,” said 3rd year Head Coach, Roger Beckwith.
The Cannons placed all six (6) players they dressed in double figures led by Rell Harrington’s 33 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 5 steal performance. Four (4) Cannons contributed double doubles including Akil Anderson, Kenny Walton, Isiah Gans, and Shawn Green. Anderson had 26 points and 14 rebounds, 23 and 14 for Walton, 20 and 13 for Gans and 22 and 10 for Green. “I didn’t think they would be able to handle our athleticism and we actually shot fairly well from deep too,” offered Coach Beckwith.
The Cannons will host the York Buccaneers Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 PM. The game will take place at Gustine Recreation Center, located at 4868 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Buccaneers are currently ranked 24th in the latest national ABA rankings with a 3-1 record.
The Cannons are eager to compete for an American Basketball Association (ABA) championship. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons will compete in the Northeast Region with the Jersey Express, Pottstown Flames, NEPA Stars and Stripes, DMV Warriors, West Chester Wildcats, Reading Wizards, New England Outtatowners and the Lancaster Wolf Pack, among others.
