The Philly Cannons, the 8th ranked ABA team in the country at the time, fell behind 49-21 after the first quarter and although they rallied to pull the game within two points at 128-126 in the fourth quarter, ultimately they dropped a decision150-144 to the newly formed, Wyoming Valley Clutch in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest Saturday night at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center.

Playing in front of a sellout crowd, the Clutch started the game out on fire and took an early 9-0 lead before Philly called a quick timeout. The Clutch stayed the course the rest of the 1st half and lead 79-57 at half. The Clutch ran the lead to 28 to start the third period but that was the highest the lead would get, as the Cannons started marching their way back. It appeared as if Philly would overtake Wyoming Valley when they pulled within two points in the 4th quarter, but the Clutch iced the game on the line as the Clutch’s Ayyub Ali, and Tyriek Steward calmly knocked down 2 free throws each to seal it.

The Clutch were led by Peter Alexis and Ali with 34 and 32 pts respectively. The Clutch had 5 other players in double figures, led by Chris Shovlin’s 27, Steward with 16, Dave Jannuzzi and Larry Anderscavage each with 13 and Darnell Alford Jr chipped in with 10pts. Alexis and Ali also dominated the glass with 17 and 9 rebounds respectively. The Cannons were led by Rell Harrington’s 33 points and 7 steals, while Andre Rivers added 22 pts and Shawn Green contributed 19 respectively.

The Cannons hit the road this Saturday November 10th, at the Westtown School at 7:00 PM to face the West Chester Wildcats, another first year ABA franchise. On Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 3 PM the Philly Cannons will host the Fredericksburg Grizzlies at Steelton-Highspire’s famed Martin K Benkovic Gymnasium.

The Cannons are eager to compete for an American Basketball Association (ABA) championship. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons will compete in the Northeast Region with the Jersey Express, Pottstown Flames, NEPA Stars and Stripes, DMV Warriors, York Buccaneers, Reading Wizards, New England Outtatowners and the Lancaster Wolf Pack, among others.
