The Philly Cannons released their home schedules today. Eight (8) games will be played at Steelton-Highspire High School in Steelton, PA including this Saturday’s home opener with the Pottstown Flames while three (3) games will be played at Lindenwold High School in New Jersey. “We are still the Philly Cannons but we receive a lot of support and love outside the city so we will play wherever the demand takes us,” said Team President and Head Coach Roger Beckwith.

The Cannons have not had a steady home venue inside the City of Philadelphia since departing West Catholic HS after year one in 2017. “Some of my players have problems with the travel but I think it’ll be a good situation after they experience the atmosphere at The Pit,” said Beckwith referring to the informal name for the Martin J.Benkovic Gymnasium where the Steelton-Highspire High School Rollers play their home games. Schedule highlights, in addition to the home opener with the Flames, include two November dates with the DMV Warriors and the Fredericksburg Grizzlies, both who are preseason ranked in the ABA Top 25.

The Cannons had originally planned to play three (3) games in the midstate area, continuing their tradition of playing games in the 717 area code but had to expand to eight (8) games when a local venue in the Philly area was not able to accommodate them. “The past two years we played at the Scotland campus and the administration has changed up there so going to Steelton-Highspire allows us to keep our inroads with the mid state area, “ explained Beckwith. The Cannons also have ex Shippensburg Red Raiders on their team and that allows them to play near their alma mater where some of their supports can come see them.

For those who cannot make the 100 minute trek to The Pit from Philly, The Cannons will have three (3) dates at Lindenwold HS. “Lindenwold is like 20 minutes from Philly so that is a closer option for those in the Philly and tri state area who wish to see us live,” offered Beckwith. The Philly Cannons played two games at Lindenwold NJ last year and are happy to be coming back. “Lindenwold HS is a great location to play at and I’m really looking forward to hosting the Jersey Express there,” said Beckwith referring to his northern New Jersey rival who will visit the Cannons on 2/23/19. The Cannons will also host the RDC Vulcans, an ABA franchise representing Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill aka The Research Triangle area of North Carolina on 1/26/19. “Their owner is a Philly native so she has been wanting to bring her team back home so I’m fortunate that we were able to get them scheduled.”

The Cannons have been practicing and sparring with the Philly Stunnaz an affiliate team, all summer and are eager to compete for an American Basketball Association (ABA) championship. The ABA consists of over 150 teams nationwide, and the Cannons will compete in the Northeast Region with the Jersey Express, Pottstown Flames, NEPA Stars and Stripes, DMV Warriors, York Buccaneers, Reading Wizards, New England Outtatowners and the Lancaster Wolf Pack, among others.
