Exeter, Pennsylvania-January 20, 2017-The Philly Cannons put up a fight against the Northeast PA (NEPA) Stars and Stripes, but ultimately came up short 131-124 in an American Basketball Association (ABA) contest. The Cannons, who started off strong, lead 54-52 at the half but were unable to sustain the lead over the nationally ranked Stars and Stripes. “When we were up by 10, we knew they were going to make a run but we have to get situational stops when we need them… that’s the difference between us losing and winning close games,” said 2nd year Cannons Coach Roger Beckwith.
The Cannons were led by Ramair “Juice” Garner’s 28 and Deione “Dex” Lathem’s 24 points respectively. Andrew Moye added 18 to lead three others in double figures. “I don’t want to sound pessimistic because we clearly have some positives to build upon” offered Beckwith “but you are what you are and right now we are a 3-6 basketball team in the ABA no matter how much potential we display.” The schedule does not get easier either. The Cannons will host the Steel City Yellow Jackets on Saturday January 27, 2018 at 1 PM. The game will take place at Lindenwold High School 801 Egg Harbor Road, Lindenwold New Jersey 08021.
On Sunday, January 28, 2018 The Cannons will face Fredericksburg Grizzlies at their satellite home venue, the Alpha Fitness Gymnasium in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The game will tip off at 3 PM. The ABA consists of over 100 teams nationwide, and the Cannons compete in the Chesapeake Division with the Baltimore Hawks, Prince George County Valor, Pottstown Flames, NEPA Stars and Stripes, York Buccaneers, Reading Wizards, Steel City Yellow Jackets, and the Western Maryland Bulldogs.
