PHILLY CANNONS WIN OPENER BY FORFEIT
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-November 6, 2017-The Philly Cannons of the American Basketball Association (ABA) journeyed to Poolesville, Maryland to face the Western MD Bulldogs for their first game of the 2017-18 ABA season. However, upon arrival there were problems at the venue that prevented the game from taking place; the Cannons were awarded a victory by forfeit. “Naturally, we are disappointed that we didn’t get on the court Saturday night, and every now and then things happen that are beyond our control,” offered Cannons Head Coach, Roger Beckwith.
The Cannons now will turn their attention to the Reading Wizards, who they will visit this Saturday, November 11, 2017. “Reading won the season series 2-1 last year,” said second year Head Coach, Roger Beckwith. The game will take place at Southern Middle School, 931 Chestnut Street, Reading, PA 19602. Tip-off is at 4:00 PM.
The Cannons will look very different from last season as several players have moved on to FIBA teams to further their careers. Top players returning are 5’11” guard Jeff Giddings, 6’5” forward Rakeem Boyd, 6’3” guard Ron Lee, and 6’9” forward/center, Shaquille Duncan. Top newcomers include 6’4” swingman Kassim Green, 6’3” guard Shawn Green, 6’6” forward Xavier Ferguson, 6’1” guard DeHaven Brown, 6’2” guard Ben Hull, and 6’1” guard Brandon Victorian. The Cannons home opener will take place Sunday, November 26, 2017 when the Baltimore Hawks will visit the City of Brotherly Love. The game will take place at the Lenfest Center, 3890 N 10th Street, Philadelphia PA 19140. Tip-off is 7:00 PM
The Cannons have been practicing and sparring with the Philadelphia Stunnaz, an affiliate team, all summer and are eager to compete for an American Basketball Association (ABA) championship. The ABA consists of over 100 teams nationwide, and the Cannons will compete in the Chesapeake Division with the Baltimore Hawks, Pottstown Flames, NEPA Stars and Stripes, Prince George County Valor, York Buccaneers, Reading Wizards, Steel City Yellow Jackets, and the Western Maryland Bulldogs.
